University of Virginia seal [manuscript], circa 1936, 1959

The collection contains three copies of the University of Virginia seal (2 on paper, 1 photograph). Seal is circular, with "University of Virginia" written around the sides and "1819" written at the bottom. In the middle of the seal is the Grecian goddess Athena. The three seals differ on what she is holding and whether or not there is anything behind her. With these is an enlargement of a drawing from which original cuts were made by the University Press of Virginia, 1959. This drawing, by Anne E.H. Freudenberg, was derived from the ealiest seals used on University diplomas. A copy of the job order is included.
